Datanomix and Hexagon have expanded an existing partnership to bridge the gap between CAM programming and CNC machine execution, connecting Hexagon's Esprit Edge software directly to Datanomix's G-Code Cloud and Distributed Numerical Control (DNC) platform. The integration automates revision control, assembles a complete Digital Production Bundle of NC program, print, setup sheet and tooling documentation, and delivers it to the machine operator's interface without manual file transfer.

The collaboration targets a persistent pain point in precision manufacturing: the disconnect between where programs are written and where they run. Files routed via network drives, email or USB sticks create version uncertainty, and edits made at the machine controller often go unrecorded. Under the new workflow, a programmer completes a part program in Esprit Edge and uploads it to Hexagon's cloud. Datanomix then versions the package by part number and holds it until approved, at which point it is pushed automatically to the operator's Machine HUD, the same interface already used for production monitoring.

"Programming and the machine should not be two different systems of record, with people guessing whether the right program is running, the right setup sheets were used, or where the right version of these artifacts even lives," said Greg McHale, Founder and CEO of Datanomix.

Closing the feedback loop

A notable element of the integration is the return path for controller edits. When an operator modifies a program at the machine, the change is recorded against the delivered version and routed back to the originating engineer as a change request. Zoltan Tomoga, Product Manager at Hexagon's Production Software Division, noted that recurring jobs can return months or years after the previous run, by which point machines, tooling and personnel may all have changed. Formalising that edit loop, he argued, helps programmers understand what was learned on the previous production run and decide what to carry into the next approved revision.

The companies also highlight audit and compliance functionality. Programs authored in Esprit Edge and stored in G-Code Cloud are managed within a platform the companies say is built for CMMC 2.0, the US Department of Defense's Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification framework. Every change carries a log entry capturing who made it, what was changed, when, and why. Manufacturers running medical, defence or aerospace programmes can also execute compliance scans across their entire program library, generating a report of where standards are met and where gaps exist.

Market context

NC program management sits at the intersection of manufacturing execution systems, CAM software and industrial cybersecurity. The category has grown in profile as defence and aerospace primes tighten supply-chain audit requirements, and as CMMC 2.0 implementation extends those obligations down to smaller job shops. Competitors in the space include a range of DNC vendors and MES platform providers, though few combine cloud-based revision control with direct machine-floor delivery and a feedback loop back to engineering in a single integrated workflow.

Hexagon is a large incumbent in metrology and manufacturing software, with approximately 16,000 employees across 50 countries and net sales of around 3.7 billion euros. Datanomix is a smaller New Hampshire-based software vendor whose product portfolio also includes production monitoring, TMAC ai and ToolAnalytix. The partnership leverages Hexagon's established footprint in CAM tooling and Datanomix's specialism in machine-data analytics and shop-floor delivery.
