FormStart relaunches Health Hub with AI triage for protection advisers
FormStart, formerly Health Hub, has officially rebranded and launched a dual-layer AI toolset embedded in its adviser dashboard, targeting the UK protection advice market. The Shrewsbury-based firm says the upgrade moves it beyond health data collection into what it describes as a "protection intelligence platform," helping advisers triage client health disclosures against UK underwriter criteria before a quote is even requested.
The platform's core function remains its structured client intake workflow: advisers send clients branded web forms to capture health, medical history and lifestyle data before the initial advice call. The new AI layer automatically maps returned disclosures against underwriter acceptance criteria, generating indicative guidance for the adviser. A secondary conversational assistant allows advisers to query specific medical conditions, BMI thresholds or lifestyle risk factors interactively during case preparation. Both tools are included at no additional charge to existing subscribers.
The product
Dale North, co-founder of FormStart, said the rebrand reflects a deliberate expansion of scope. "Rebranding to FormStart marks our shift from a simple intake tool to a protection intelligence platform. By providing instant criteria research alongside detailed client disclosures, we are giving advisers the clarity they need to place business faster, while helping underwriter helpdesks by ensuring queries arriving at their desks are far better qualified."
Nick Wood, director at Independent Mortgage Advice Bureau, offered a practitioner perspective: "Cross-referencing niche medical histories against multiple underwriter guides used to swallow hours of our week. Having automated triage and criteria search built straight into our client intake workflow has completely transformed our prep process."
The company is explicit that the platform supports rather than replaces the FCA-registered adviser's own advice process, a positioning that matters under the FCA's Consumer Duty framework, which came fully into force in 2023 and places ongoing obligations on firms to demonstrate good outcomes for retail customers. Any tool that influences product recommendations for protection insurance sits within scope of those obligations, and FormStart's decision to frame its AI output as "indicative guidance" rather than a recommendation is likely deliberate regulatory positioning.
The release also notes that the platform recently completed independent security testing by a CREST-approved tester, a recognised standard for penetration testing in the UK financial services sector. No further detail on scope or findings was provided.
Market context
The UK protection technology market is a growing niche within broader insurtech, with several platforms competing to digitise the adviser workflow. Vendors including iPipeline and UnderwriteMe have offered rules-based underwriting pre-assessment for several years; FormStart's addition of a conversational AI assistant represents a step toward natural-language case research, which is where a number of well-funded startups across financial services are also investing.
The volume pressure on underwriter helpdesks is a well-documented operational problem in the sector. Better pre-qualified queries arriving from advisers could meaningfully reduce that cost for insurers, giving FormStart a dual-sided value proposition that may support distribution partnerships with insurers as a growth path beyond direct adviser subscriptions.
FormStart has not disclosed subscriber numbers, revenue, or the AI infrastructure underpinning its new tools. The platform is now live to independent advisers, protection firms and existing Health Hub users across the UK.
