Saudi Arabia's MCIT, CST and DGA named HID its IoT Leader in Digital ID Verification at the LEAP 2026 technology conference in Riyadh.

HID wins Saudi IoT digital identity award at LEAP 2026

HID, the Austin-based identity technology subsidiary of ASSA ABLOY, has been recognised as "Saudi Arabia IoT Leader in Digital ID Verification" by three Saudi government bodies: the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the Communications Space and Technology Commission, and the Digital Government Authority. The award was presented at LEAP 2026, the annual technology conference and exhibition held in Riyadh, where the company was cited for its contribution to secure digital experiences across sectors aligned with the Kingdom's Vision 2030 programme.

The recognition falls within Saudi Arabia's broader IoT Adoption Initiative, a public-private programme that the authorities say has brought more than 300 participating organisations, facilitated the deployment of over 40 million connected devices and contributed approximately SAR 17 billion (around US$4.5 billion) to Saudi GDP. HID did not disclose which specific deployments or contracts within the Kingdom were cited in the award criteria.

The regional opportunity

Gustavo Gassmann, Vice President and Head of Emerging Markets at HID Global, framed the award in terms of the wider digitisation shift underway across Saudi organisations. "Digital identity is becoming a critical enabler as Saudi organizations digitalize services, strengthen security and improve citizen and customer experiences," he said. "Our portfolio is built to support that shift, helping secure access across both digital and physical environments."

The company describes Saudi Arabia as one of its strategic global markets, with active demand spanning government services, financial services, healthcare, transportation, and critical infrastructure. HID has an established regional presence but did not quantify its Saudi revenue, headcount or number of active customer deployments in the release.

LEAP 2026 itself closed with nearly US$15 billion in announced investments and partnerships across artificial intelligence, cloud computing, data centres and technology manufacturing, underlining the pace at which the Kingdom is attracting vendor commitments.

Market and regulatory context

Digital identity verification is a crowded and consolidating market. HID competes with a range of pure-play identity vendors, biometric specialists and platform providers including IDEMIA, Thales, and Entrust, as well as hyperscalers increasingly bundling identity services into cloud offerings. For government-grade deployments, interoperability with national identity frameworks and compliance with local data-residency rules are typically decisive procurement factors.

Saudi Arabia's regulatory environment is relevant here. The Kingdom's Personal Data Protection Law, administered by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority, imposes data-localisation obligations that favour vendors able to demonstrate in-country processing. As the government pursues Vision 2030's digitalisation targets, public-sector tenders for identity and access management are expected to grow in volume and value. Vendors with an established local presence and recognised government endorsement gain a reputational advantage in subsequent procurement processes, making awards of this kind commercially meaningful beyond the symbolic.

HID's next public milestone in the region is likely to be contract announcements or solution-specific deployments that can quantify its contribution to the IoT Adoption Initiative's stated numbers. Investors and partners will look for that specificity as the company translates government recognition into disclosed commercial wins.
