Ambarella expands DevZone with cloud IDE and live silicon access
Ambarella has announced a significant expansion of its Developer Zone (DevZone), adding a cloud-hosted integrated development environment, remote access to cloud-connected fleets of its SoC-based hardware, and agentic AI development assistance built on Google Cloud Platform and Gemini Enterprise. The capabilities are in staged early access now and are expected to reach general availability in Q1 2027.
DevZone launched at CES 2026 as an early-access programme centred on the Cooper Model Garden, agentic blueprints and developer documentation. The September update moves the platform beyond evaluation, extending it into daily development workflows and production deployment. Ambarella says hundreds of developers at enterprise customers, independent software vendors and OEM partners have engaged with the platform since launch.
What developers get
The cloud-hosted IDE gives developers immediate access to Ambarella SDKs, documentation, optimised models and sample projects without local installation. From within that environment, they can book a session on a cloud-connected fleet of Ambarella-based devices and run builds directly on live silicon, with latency, throughput and power consumption measured under real-world operating conditions. That "hardware-in-the-loop" capability removes the need for developers to procure and configure physical evaluation boards before they can benchmark their own models and data on the target chip.
Gemini Enterprise integration provides coding assistance, documentation search, troubleshooting and workflow automation throughout the development cycle. The capabilities sit alongside existing low-code and no-code agentic blueprints already in DevZone, which are designed to help teams construct the multi-agent workflows that physical AI systems require in production.
Muneyb Minhazuddin, Customer Growth Officer at Ambarella, said the expansion "removes the setup work and the hardware procurement that has traditionally preceded that milestone," adding that partner integrations allow a team to carry an application "from a first experiment to a managed installed base without changing tools."
Ecosystem and portfolio context
Two partnerships extend the platform's reach. Ultralytics has collaborated with Ambarella to support its YOLO model family on CVflow-powered devices, covering object detection, instance segmentation, image classification, pose estimation and oriented bounding box detection. YOLO is among the most widely deployed computer vision model families, and embedding it into the DevZone workflow gives edge-AI developers a familiar starting point. Separately, ZEDEDA's EVE-OS, an open-source edge operating system governed by the Linux Foundation, can now be loaded onto supported Ambarella SoCs, enabling AI workloads to be deployed, monitored and updated across distributed device fleets via ZEDEDA's Edge Intelligence Platform.
Ambarella's CVflow architecture and Cooper Developer Platform are common across its portfolio, meaning perception models, AI workflows and software assets developed in DevZone can be carried across silicon generations and performance tiers with limited rework. The company says its 12 edge AI SoC families support more than 200 AI model architectures and have shipped to an installed base exceeding 50 million units.
Market context
The cloud-based developer experience is becoming a competitive battleground in the edge AI silicon market. Vendors increasingly recognise that reducing time-to-first-result on target hardware is as important as raw inference performance. Rivals such as Qualcomm, NXP and Renesas each operate developer portal programmes; hyperscalers have also entered the edge-AI stack through managed IoT and fleet-management services. Ambarella's decision to build directly on GCP rather than operate independent cloud infrastructure aligns with a broader industry pattern of silicon vendors partnering with hyperscalers to reduce capital expenditure and leverage existing enterprise procurement relationships.
The ZEDEDA integration is also notable in the context of the Linux Foundation's growing role as a standards body for edge operating environments. EVE-OS sits within a wider ecosystem of open-source edge projects, and commercial adoption of that stack signals that Ambarella is orienting its platform towards enterprise buyers who prioritise interoperability and vendor-neutral management tooling over proprietary lock-in.
General availability is targeted for Q1 2027. Ambarella and ZEDEDA will demonstrate the combined stack at the AI Infrastructure Summit, running a custom solution blueprint on an Ambarella N1-655 platform.
