Duos Technologies appoints Dipan Patel as COO to scale edge AI push
Duos Technologies Group (Nasdaq: DUOT) has appointed Dipan Patel as Chief Operating Officer, effective immediately. Patel reports to chief executive Doug Recker and takes on full operational accountability for the Jacksonville-based company's edge AI data centres and GPU-as-a-Service platform across the United States.
Patel joins from Telstra InfraCo, where as a Digital Infrastructure Solutions Executive he oversaw product strategy and commercial monetisation across a portfolio the company valued at more than $25 billion, spanning data centres, fibre networks, exchange facilities and critical communications infrastructure. Before that, he served as EVP of Strategy, Technology and New Business Initiatives at SBA Communications Corporation, where he founded the company's corporate growth division and led investments in data centres, power infrastructure and open-access fibre. Earlier career stops include Cox Communications and Accenture. He holds a PhD in Digital Communications and a BEng in Information Systems Engineering from Imperial College London, and is a Senior Member of the IEEE with 12 granted patents.
The appointment
Recker said Patel's background in building and scaling infrastructure businesses across data centres and communications networks would be "instrumental" as Duos expands its edge AI platform. Patel, for his part, described AI as driving "a once-in-a-generation infrastructure buildout" and said he intends to leverage his experience to expand the company's operational footprint.
Duos did not disclose compensation terms, equity grants, or specific revenue or deployment targets connected to the hire. The company did not name any new customer wins or contracts signed alongside the announcement.
Market context
Duos operates in the modular and edge data centre segment, a category that has attracted significant investor interest as enterprises and telecoms operators seek to push compute closer to workloads, reducing latency and, in some cases, alleviating pressure on hyperscale facilities already constrained by power availability. The company's GPU-as-a-Service positioning also places it in competition with a range of pure-play GPU cloud providers and colocation operators adding AI-optimised capacity.
The wider edge data centre market is fragmented, with activity from well-funded startups, established colocation providers expanding their footprints, and telecoms operators monetising existing infrastructure assets. Patel's background at Telstra InfraCo and SBA Communications gives Duos a hire with direct experience of the telecoms-to-infrastructure pivot, which has become a common growth narrative as carriers look to sweat their tower and fibre assets.
Regulatory and standards read-across
Modular edge deployments in the United States increasingly intersect with federal and state-level permitting, grid-connection timelines, and, for AI-workload customers, potential export-control considerations around advanced GPU hardware. The US Bureau of Industry and Security has tightened licensing requirements for high-end AI accelerators, which can affect GPU-as-a-Service operators sourcing or re-exporting restricted chips. Duos' stated manufacturer-agnostic sourcing model may offer some flexibility here, though the company has not publicly detailed its procurement arrangements for restricted-class hardware.
For enterprise buyers, the key near-term milestones to watch will be named customer deployments, disclosed capacity figures for the edge data centre estate, and any update on GPU fleet specifications underpinning the as-a-Service offer. A C-suite hire with Patel's infrastructure pedigree signals ambition; the operational proof points will follow.
