SQUAN launches data centre practice for end-to-end connectivity
SQUAN, a New Jersey-based turnkey infrastructure and design-build firm, has announced the launch of a dedicated data centre practice intended to position the company as a single accountable partner across the full connectivity lifecycle. The practice extends SQUAN's existing outside plant (OSP) engineering and fibre construction capabilities into in-facility environments, covering everything from network edge to rack-level inside plant (ISP) deployment.
The company says the service line is aimed at hyperscalers, colocation providers, and enterprise operators facing growing complexity as AI workloads and high-density fibre requirements strain traditional project delivery models. Specific capabilities within the practice include rack and infrastructure build-out, connectivity and transport construction, bidirectional signal integrity validation, pre-activation certification, asset auditing, and ongoing Day 2 operational support from on-site technical teams.
The proposition
Marc Dyman, Chief Development Officer at SQUAN, said the company's ability to unify OSP construction, engineering services, intra-location access, and data centre ISP work under a single point of ownership is the core differentiator. "By bringing OSP construction, engineering services, ILA, and data center ISP capabilities together, we can provide a single point of ownership across the entire route," he said.
The practice is explicitly designed to close what SQUAN describes as execution gaps between teams, vendors, and project scopes, coordination failures that can produce delays, rework, or operational risk during commissioning. SQUAN did not disclose any named hyperscaler or colocation customers at launch, nor did it provide contract values, headcount figures, or revenue targets associated with the new practice.

The data centre infrastructure services market is experiencing significant demand pressure as AI training and inference deployments drive requirements for higher-density fibre, lower-latency interconnects, and faster time-to-operational-readiness. Large hyperscalers running multi-vendor construction programmes frequently cite handoff fragmentation, the gap between OSP contractors and ISP integrators, as a source of commissioning delays and cost overruns.
Several infrastructure services firms are pursuing similar single-vendor accountability models, including larger US tower and fibre companies that have broadened their managed services portfolios. For a mid-sized firm such as SQUAN, the strategic logic is clear: consolidating OSP and ISP under one contractual relationship reduces client procurement overhead and creates stickier long-term service relationships. Whether the company has the scale and geographic reach to compete for the largest hyperscaler programmes will be a question buyers and investors will ask.
Standards and compliance read-across
Data centre connectivity projects of significant scale, particularly those serving cloud tenants subject to FedRAMP or SOC 2 Type II requirements, increasingly demand documented testing and certification artefacts as part of commissioning sign-off. SQUAN's inclusion of pre-activation certification and bidirectional signal integrity checks in its service description suggests an awareness of this compliance layer, though the company has not confirmed alignment with any specific standards framework.
The broader infrastructure delivery market is also watching how the US permitting environment and supply-chain conditions for fibre and conduit affect project timelines. SQUAN operates exclusively within the United States, which insulates it from some cross-border complexity but also concentrates its exposure to domestic labour availability and materials costs as data centre construction pipelines remain historically full.
