AmpliTech receives $7.3m in follow-on O-RAN 5G orders from Asian MNO
AmpliTech Group has received approximately $7.3 million in follow-on purchase orders from an unnamed Asian mobile network operator (MNO), adding to the commercial momentum it reported from a separate North American MNO programme earlier this year. The orders are placed under a previously announced Letter of Intent and follow the initial deployment of AmpliTech's O-RAN radio units at live 5G end-customer sites.
The Hauppauge, New York-based company designs and manufactures radio-frequency microwave components, Massive MIMO O-RAN radios, and cryogenic low-noise amplifiers serving telecom, defence and satellite customers. AmpliTech claims to be the only US company to have designed and commercialised an O-RAN CAT B 64T64R Massive MIMO radio unit, with all products designed and engineered domestically.
The orders
Fawad Maqbool, chairman, chief executive and CTO of AmpliTech Group, said the repeat orders "restore meaningful momentum" under the LOI programme and reflect "continued customer confidence" in the company's ability to operate in real-world O-RAN networks. Neither the Asian MNO nor the specific deployment geography was named in the release. The LOI itself remains non-binding, and any further orders beyond those announced today remain subject to definitive purchase agreements and customer deployment schedules.
The $7.3 million figure covers follow-on orders only; AmpliTech did not disclose cumulative contract value under the LOI, total shipments to date, or the revenue recognition timeline for the newly received orders.
Market context
Open RAN is gaining ground as a structural alternative to single-vendor radio access network deployments dominated by Ericsson, Nokia and Huawei. Asian operators have been among the more aggressive early adopters of O-RAN architectures, partly driven by government-backed programmes to diversify supply chains and reduce exposure to any single equipment vendor.
For smaller specialist vendors such as AmpliTech, follow-on orders from live deployments are a meaningful commercial signal, because O-RAN's disaggregated architecture allows operators to mix and match components from multiple suppliers, meaning incumbent relationships are harder to entrench and new entrants can displace existing kit if their performance holds up in production.
The broader O-RAN ecosystem is also the subject of active standards development through the O-RAN Alliance, whose specifications underpin interoperability between radio units, distributed units and centralised units from different vendors. Compliance with those specifications is increasingly a de-facto procurement requirement for operators building open, multi-vendor RAN deployments.
Competitive positioning
AmpliTech competes in a market where it is significantly smaller by revenue than the major RAN equipment vendors, but targets the disaggregated radio unit layer specifically, where hardware differentiation on noise figure, power consumption and form factor can influence operator selection. The company's claimed status as the sole US-designed O-RAN CAT B 64T64R radio vendor is notable given ongoing US government interest in promoting domestic alternatives to Chinese-manufactured telecoms equipment under the FCC's Secure and Trusted Communications Networks programme.
Investors will be watching for the conversion of the growing LOI-linked pipeline into recognised revenue, the disclosure of named operator customers and, longer term, whether AmpliTech can scale manufacturing to meet volume deployment demand alongside its other product lines.
