Gilat wins $20m-plus SkyEdge order from unnamed satellite operator

Gilat Satellite Networks has secured over $20m in SkyEdge orders from an undisclosed global satellite operator, with most deliveries expected within 24 months.

Gilat Satellite Networks has received more than $20 million in orders from an unnamed global satellite operator for its SkyEdge ground-segment platform, the Israeli-American vendor announced on 15 July 2026. The orders cover ongoing services, advanced ground-segment systems, and network management capabilities, with the majority of deliveries scheduled within a 24-month window.

The customer was not identified in the release. Gilat said the award reflects demand for multi-orbit connectivity support, with the SkyEdge platform providing network performance management, scalability tools, and operational efficiency across mobility, enterprise broadband, and cellular backhaul applications.

The deal

Ron Levin, President of Gilat's Commercial Division, said the orders "underscore the confidence leading satellite operators place in Gilat's services, technology and systems as they continue to expand and enhance their networks." Gilat did not disclose the contract term, the specific SkyEdge product tiers ordered, or the identity of the buying operator beyond describing it as a leading global player.

Gilat is dual-listed on NASDAQ and the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange and operates through a set of wholly owned subsidiaries including Gilat Wavestream, Gilat DataPath, and Gilat Stellar Blu, covering products from solid-state power amplifiers to electronically steered antennas and software-defined modems. The company counts government, defence, in-flight connectivity, and critical infrastructure among its served verticals.

Market context

The satellite communications ground-segment market is undergoing a structural shift as operators transition from single-orbit geostationary architectures toward multi-orbit constellations that combine GEO, MEO, and LEO layers. That transition drives demand for software-defined ground systems capable of handoff and beam-switching across orbit regimes, which is the core capability Gilat positions SkyEdge to address.

Gilat competes in the ground-segment space against vendors including Hughes Network Systems, ViaSat (now Viasat), and a growing cohort of software-native entrants targeting the low-earth orbit connectivity build-out. The scale of investment flowing into LEO constellations from operators such as SpaceX Starlink, Amazon Kuiper, and Eutelsat OneWeb has created a substantial incremental market for ground-segment and network-management suppliers. Operators running hybrid fleets need interoperable management layers, and established vendors with proven network-management software are well placed to capture that spend.

For buyers in regulated markets, particularly defence and critical infrastructure, country-of-origin considerations can affect procurement eligibility and export-licence requirements under US BIS rules and equivalent European frameworks.

The unnamed customer's 24-month delivery window positions most of the revenue recognition in 2027 and into 2028. Analysts tracking Gilat's order book will note that a single $20 million-plus award is material relative to the company's reported annual revenues, and the absence of a named customer limits independent verification of contract terms. Gilat is expected to address the order in its next quarterly earnings call.
