CFO Recruit launches North American finance leadership search firm
CFO Recruit, the North American arm of UK-based Exec Recruit Group, has published a brand profile outlining its specialist finance leadership recruitment service covering the United States and Canada. The firm, which launched in December 2023, focuses exclusively on placing CFOs and senior finance executives across full-time, part-time, fractional and interim roles, primarily for small and medium enterprises with revenues below $200 million.
Christine Schneider, Regional Director for North America, leads the Miami operation, bringing what the company describes as 30 years of recruitment experience, including 11 years in executive search. The parent group, Exec Recruit Group Ltd, was founded in the UK in 2013 and now operates six specialist recruitment brands there, including FD Recruit and HR Recruit.
How the firm operates
CFO Recruit's stated methodology centres on an annual interview programme covering 800 to 900 CFOs, which the firm uses to build market intelligence on salary benchmarks, skills demand and candidate movement. The company says it relies on a combination of technology and manual screening to assess both technical competence and cultural fit, and that it delivers candidate shortlists within three to four weeks of engagement. It claims a 99% assignment success rate, though no independent verification of that figure is provided in the release.
Named client placements include the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office, brand agency Fuel Inc., and consumer goods company The Ginger People. These examples span public-sector, private-equity-backed and family-owned businesses, illustrating the breadth of the firm's stated client base.
Market context
The CFO recruitment market has become increasingly competitive as the scope of the finance leadership role expands. CFOs at mid-market companies are now routinely expected to oversee technology investment decisions, ESG reporting, and operational functions that were historically outside the finance remit. This broadening of the role has intensified demand for candidates with cross-functional credibility, not simply accounting or treasury expertise.
A number of specialist finance-leadership search firms operate in the North American mid-market, competing alongside generalist executive search practices at the major global firms. The fractional and interim CFO segment in particular has attracted growing interest from private equity sponsors managing portfolio companies through transitional periods, where the cost of a permanent hire cannot be justified at an early stage.
CFO Recruit's positioning as a finance-only recruiter is its primary differentiator. Generalist search firms tend to carry broader mandates but may lack the depth of CFO-specific networks that a specialist firm can credibly claim. Whether a firm founded in late 2023 has yet built the candidate density to compete with longer-established North American players remains an open question; the client examples cited are predominantly small organisations, consistent with the sub-$200 million revenue target market.
The UK parent's track record over more than a decade provides some operational credibility, though the North American executive search market has distinct dynamics, including different compensation norms, a more mobile candidate base, and stronger private equity activity relative to the UK mid-market. The release does not disclose revenue figures, placement volumes, or any third-party accreditation for the North American entity.
