Topicus.com names Ramon Zanders CEO as van Poelje retires
Topicus.com has confirmed that founder-era chief executive Robin van Poelje will retire on 1 October 2026, handing the top role to Ramon Zanders, currently Group CEO of the Total Specific Solutions Blue operating group within the company. Van Poelje will remain on the board as non-executive chairman, preserving continuity at governance level.
Zanders will carry both roles simultaneously: his existing TSS Blue responsibilities are unchanged, and the company says that arrangement is deliberate, designed to avoid any disruption to that operating group's day-to-day running. He has also been appointed to the Topicus board.
Mark Miller, President of Constellation Software and a director of Topicus.com Cooperatief U.A., said van Poelje had led the business "with tremendous discipline and integrity for over sixteen years" and that the board was "fully confident in Ramon and the rest of the executive team to deliver a seamless transition." Constellation holds a strategic stake in Topicus through its cooperative structure, and Miller's statement signals Constellation's active interest in the succession outcome.
Decentralisation and restructuring
Beyond the CEO change, the Topicus board is moving to implement what it describes as an enhanced decentralisation strategy across its TSS operating groups. Each group will be expected to function as an autonomous, standalone entity. The TSS Public operating group, led by Han Knooren, has also indicated it will rebrand in the near future as it formalises its standalone status; the new name will be announced separately once confirmed.
The reorganisation reflects a broader pattern in Constellation Software's portfolio management philosophy, which emphasises giving operating units significant independence while holding them to strict capital-allocation and return metrics. Topicus was spun out of Constellation and listed on the TSX Venture Exchange in 2021, and has since pursued an acquisition-led growth model targeting vertical market software businesses across Europe.
AI pivot at group level
Separately, Daan Dijkhuizen, Group CEO of the Topicus operating group, is moving to Constellation to support what the parent describes as its drive to accelerate "AI-first initiatives" across the wider group. Miller cited Dijkhuizen's "extensive experience and expertise" as the rationale. No details were provided on the scope of that role, the specific AI initiatives in question, or how the Topicus operating group will be led in his absence.
The transition arrives as vertical market software businesses face increasing pressure to embed AI capabilities into mission-critical product lines. Topicus operates across public-sector and private-sector clients in multiple European markets, where procurement cycles are long and switching costs are high. That customer stickiness has historically insulated such businesses from competitive disruption, but enterprise buyers are beginning to expect native AI features as a baseline. How Dijkhuizen's move accelerates Constellation's AI agenda in practice, and whether it yields any product-level changes at Topicus subsidiaries, will be a key question for investors in both companies over the coming quarters.
Topicus trades on the TSX Venture Exchange under the ticker TOI. The company's CFO, Jamal Baksh, is the named investor contact.
