Infoblox closes Kentik deal to unify DNS and network intelligence

Infoblox has completed its acquisition of network observability firm Kentik, combining authoritative DNS data with real-time traffic intelligence.

Infoblox has completed the acquisition of Kentik, a network intelligence and observability specialist, adding real-time flow, routing and performance data to its existing portfolio of DNS, asset visibility and preemptive security services. The transaction closes what Infoblox describes as a platform expansion aimed at giving networking, cloud and security teams richer operational context across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.

The combined company did not disclose deal terms. Infoblox said it plans to integrate Kentik's capabilities into its platform gradually, with product milestones to be announced as they become available.

What each side brings

Infoblox's core value proposition has long rested on its authoritative DNS infrastructure: it holds ground-truth records of what devices exist on a network, what names they answer to, and how traffic is routed at the foundational layer. That data is used by more than 5,700 customers, including a majority of Fortune 100 companies, for both network management and security operations.

Kentik's contribution is the real-time layer: network flow telemetry, BGP routing data, path tracing and performance analytics that show how traffic is actually moving at any given moment. Where Infoblox can tell an operator what should be on the network, Kentik can show what is happening to it right now. Scott Harrell, president and chief executive of Infoblox, framed the combination as a data-quality problem. "AI is transforming how organisations operate enterprise infrastructure, but its value depends on the quality of the data that informs every decision," he said.

Avi Freedman, co-founder and chief executive of Kentik, pointed to the emerging role of AI as an autonomous infrastructure operator. "As AI becomes a primary operator of enterprise infrastructure, it will need both authoritative knowledge of what exists and real-time understanding of what is happening," he said.

Market context

The deal arrives at a moment when network observability is consolidating around a small number of well-funded platforms. Vendors including Cisco (via its ThousandEyes acquisition), Broadcom (NetScout in the monitoring adjacency), and a range of cloud-native upstarts such as Datadog and Dynatrace are all competing for the unified observability wallet. Infoblox's angle is differentiated to the extent that no direct competitor controls both the DNS authoritative layer and a dedicated network-flow intelligence platform under one roof, though hyperscalers offer overlapping native tooling within their own clouds.

The framing around "AgenticOps" in the release reflects a wider industry push to position network and security data as the training and inference substrate for autonomous AI agents. Enterprises evaluating agentic automation for IT operations are increasingly being told that data provenance and freshness are the binding constraints, which makes the Infoblox-Kentik combination commercially coherent.

Regulatory and integration watch

Infoblox is backed by Vista Equity Partners, which took the company private in 2016. No integration timeline was given beyond the commitment to share milestones as they become available. Buyers evaluating the combined platform will want to see concrete product roadmap disclosures, particularly on how Kentik's flow data surfaces within the Infoblox security workflows, before committing to expanded contracts.

From a compliance standpoint, network telemetry at the depth Kentik collects can intersect with employee monitoring obligations under GDPR and equivalent frameworks in other jurisdictions. Enterprises deploying the combined platform in the EU should verify that data-retention and access-control configurations satisfy their data-protection obligations. Neither company addressed this in the release.
