Humax and Paua partner to unify UK fleet EV charging

Humax and Paua are combining smart charger hardware with fleet software to automate home charging reimbursement and give operators a single view across all charge

Humax EV Charging and Paua have announced a partnership aimed at consolidating home, workplace, public and depot charging for UK commercial fleets into a single connected platform. The integration pairs the Humax MX7 smart charger with Paua's fleet charging software to eliminate the manual submissions and mileage-estimate workflows that have historically complicated driver reimbursement.

The technical backbone of the integration is ISO 15118, a vehicle-to-grid communication standard that enables the MX7 to authenticate a plugged-in vehicle automatically. When a company car connects at a driver's home, the charger identifies it and passes accurate session data to Paua, which then calculates and processes reimbursement based on real energy drawn rather than estimated mileage. The partners say this removes the need for separate expense claims and reduces the administrative overhead that accumulates when fleets rely on multiple charging and reporting tools.

The deal

Jeff Kim, president of Humax, said the growing trend of home charging was creating new operational complexity for fleet managers. "Our partnership with Paua addresses those challenges by combining the Humax MX7's intelligent vehicle identification technology with Paua's fleet charging platform," he said. "Together, we're making home charging reimbursement simpler, more accurate and fully automated, while giving fleet operators greater confidence and visibility into charging activity across their fleets."

Niall Riddell, CEO and co-founder of Paua, framed the problem as a fragmentation issue rather than a hardware one. "Electric fleet charging cannot be solved one location at a time," he said. "Fleets need those environments connected, not four separate systems held together by spreadsheets."

Humax said it intends to expand its commercial hardware portfolio later this year with a 22kW AC charger targeted at workplace and depot environments. The new unit will carry the same ISO 15118 vehicle-identification capability, meaning sessions will be linkable to individual vehicles regardless of charge-point location. The MX7 also supports Vehicle-to-Grid functionality, though no V2G commercial programme was announced alongside the partnership.

Market context

The UK fleet charging market is growing rapidly as company-car and van electrification accelerates under government targets to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel vans by 2035. Fleet operators managing mixed home-and-depot charging face a genuine data problem: without automated vehicle identification, distinguishing business charging from a driver's personal EV use at the same home charger is difficult and audit-prone.

Paua operates in a competitive space that includes charge-point networks with fleet overlays, dedicated fleet telematics providers integrating charging data, and energy management platforms. Partners such as GRIDSERVE, Mer and bp Pulse have all extended fleet-facing software layers in recent years. The differentiator Humax and Paua are claiming is depth of hardware-software integration at the home charger level, where most competing approaches rely on RFID cards or app-based session start rather than automatic vehicle authentication via ISO 15118.

The OCPP and ISO 15118 standards both feature in the UK Government's public charge-point regulations, which came into force in 2023 and mandated open protocols for publicly accessible infrastructure. Fleet operators and their advisers will note that hardware conforming to these standards provides a degree of future-proofing, including compatibility with smart-charging and demand-response schemes that DESNZ and Ofgem are developing as part of the broader flexibility market for electric vehicles.
